fix for find_similar's odd usage of the  variable before calling do_search. This brings up an issue with globalizing variables in do_search and was the first conflict from the usage of the addspecialsearch hook. However, if a search was prepared before passing it to do_search, it would normally be in an acceptable form; also note the problem only occurred when actually using the hook in a plugin.
